Lawrence K. Walker, author of The Pilgrim

Piedmont Writer is proud to present our first Author’s Profile: Lawrence K. Walker, author of The Pilgrim. Lawrence has a blog up and running that you can visit here. The blog itself is rather interesting as it unfolds from the perspective of a recent Retiree who seems to be reminiscing about various things as his daily life brings them into focus. Each memory that is sparked brings up a story which is told on the blog. Sometimes these stories are elaborated memories and sometimes they are stranger than that. Quite interesting and a good platform for writing short stories. I think you will enjoy reading them. You may want to follow Dog-eared Writer as the stories develop.

Lawrence Walker is, of course, a published Author living in the Piedmont of North Carolina in the gentle Union County Courthousecountryside of Union County, NC. Union County is a pleasant town-and-country type of place where Gold Mining was once a prominent feature. The Waccamaw Indians lived in the area and had a trading path which ran somewhat along what is now US 74. A famous trading station grew up near the present town of Indian Trail, NC. A local town still thrives in Union county called Waxhaw (near to SC; hence the olden name: Wacca-Sakalaky, or Waxalaky). Here is what Wikipedia has to say about the area near Waxhaw:

  • WaxhawWaxhaw is located in the historic region called the Waxhaws and named after the Native American tribe that lived there prior to colonial settlement. Waxhaw is in the Piedmont region of North Carolina, which is a wooded area with rolling hills. This region is where gold was first discovered in the United States. The Howie Gold mine is not far from the city Wingatelimits. Originally called the Wysacky, the community was settled by European-Americans in the mid-eighteenth century. Most settlers were of German and Scots-Irish origin. Settlers became subsistence farmers and were known for being independent. Andrew Jackson, the seventh President, was born nearby in 1767.

His book, The Pilgrim, is available from Inkwater Press or from Amazon online. It is also a collection of pilgrim covershort stories that parallel the history of U.S. current events, beginning in the 60’s (around the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis) on up through the present. Taking place in the form of memoirs of his life, they really are a platform to elaborate upon the issues of the day during those related time-frames.

Piedmont Writer will likely develop a little section devoted to Lawrence K. Walker with more of a profile on him and his works, as time goes by. Perhaps, if we’re lucky we can get some guest posts from him and post a few of his reviews. Stay tuned for more from this fun and charming Tar-heel Writer!
